NWAHJA SCHOLARSHIPS
MY RIDE SCHOLARSHIP
The "My Ride" Scholarship recipient will have their NWAHJA equitation class fees, including Medal classes, paid in full by NWAHJA for the following show season (2026). This award covers a maximum of three classes per show: one equitation division and one medal.
The winner will be announced at the
2025 Awards Banquet.
2025 Application Requirements
Please note- requirements have changed to three shows (previously four).
- Must be an NWAHJA member in good standing
- Must exhibit good sportsmanship in all circumstances
- Must compete in any Equitation division with fence heights of 2'3" and below at a minimum of three shows during the current season
- Must complete a minimum of 10 volunteer hours at NWAHJA events
- Must submit all materials by December 15, 2025, including:
- Completed scholarship application
- Essay (topic to be announced by November 15, 2025)
- Letter of recommendation from a trainer

NWAHJA EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
The NWAHJA Education Scholarship supports riders pursuing continuing education at any accredited college or university.
In the past, the education scholarship was tied to the "Scholarship Equitation" class entry fees.
Beginning this year, the scholarship is a set $1,500 award offered annually-making it a guaranteed and consistent opportunity for our riders. We've also expanded eligibility for the scholarship.
Applicants are no longer limited to riding in the Equitation class only-riders who have competed in any Hunter, Jumper, or Equitation division at least three times during the show year are now eligible to apply.
The NWAHJA Board encourages all eligible riders to apply, and we are thrilled to support our riders as they pursue their future studies!
2025 Application Requirements
Please note changes:
- Requirements reduced to three shows (previously four)
- Now open to riders enrolled in any accredited college or university, in addition to those enrolled in grades 9-12
- Now open to riders in any division (Hunters, Jumpers, or Equitation), provided they compete in the same devision at a minimum of three shows during the season
Eligibility:
- Must be an NWAHJA member in good standing
- Must be in grades 9-12 or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the time of the 2025 Awards Banquet
- Must compete in at least three shows during the current year in Hunter, Equitation, or Jumper division
- Must hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Must complete a minimum of 20 NWAHJA volunteer hours and 10 additional community volunteer hours
Submission Requirements (due December 15, 2025):
- Completed scholarship application
- Essay (minimum two pages, single-spaced) describing horse-related experiences, educational goals, and intended use of funds
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a teacher (past or present) and one from an equine professional
The top three applications will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee in early January 2026, judged on equine Knowledge, personality, and communication skills. The winner will be announced at the
2025 NWAHJA Awards Banquet. If no qualified applicants are received, the scholarship will roll over to the following year.
Guidelines for Evaluating 2025 NWAHJA Scholarship Applicants
This points system will be facilitated to fairly evaluate each applicant. The NWAHJA Scholarship Committee will select the strongest applicant based upon the total points accrued during the application process.
